Arren Williams is the name, and I'm a stylist, editor and trend reporter. You'll catch my work regularly popping up in print in the likes of the National Post, House & Home and elsewhere. I'm also a guest expert on Citytv's CityLine, and you can occasionally find me on HGTV as well as on ABC 7 News in Chicago.
To keep things fun I've tapped a couple of friends - Julia Black and Jenn Hannotte - to contribute their views on design too. Enjoy!
Hi Chris, A slightly sticky situation, since good lighting is so important in a bathroom! Being lit from above can work well, especially if there are lots of white surfaces around to help bounce the light, otherwise whoever has to stand in front of the mirror and shave - or put on make-up for that matter - will see lots of shadows on their face which is a bit of a no-no. A sconce between the two mirrors would work if the bulb is completely covered to diffuse the light, and if it's bright enough to light both sides well. So there's your dilemma, though from a purely aesthetic level I think the lighting above each mirror would look best.
Hope that's a bit of a help!
Cheers, Arren

Hi Arren,
we are renovating our ensuite and will be installing a double vanity with two 18X36 mirrors above each sink. The vanity is between the window on one end and the glass shower stall on the other with relatively little space between the ends and the vanity.....we were trying to put sconces on either side of the mirror but it is really tight
What do you think would work and look better...a larger sconce between the two mirrors or a chandelier like pendant in front of each mirror?
Cheers
Chris
