Ask Arren > Bathroom paint suggestion

Good morning Arren,

I'm in the middle of renovating a bathroom, and am having doubts about paint colours, and thought I'd ask your opinion, since you have such great style.

Our bathroom has been gutted, and we're starting from scratch. It's an old house (110 years or so), so we've tried to keep some elements traditional, but are both fans of modern decor. We have picked carrera marble hexoganal tiles for the floor, white subway tiles for the walls (running full height in the shower and approx 4 feet around the rest of the room), capped with a marble pencil moulding. The vanity is modern, clean-lined and white, with a carrerra marble counter, all fixtures are chrome, and the tub and toilet are sleek and modern.

The rest of the house (walls and ceiling) is painted Benjamin Moore Horizon (a really light gray) with cloud white trim. The flooring in the hall is dark stained wood. I was planning on carrying the Horizon paint into the bathroom, but am worried that all the gray and white may make it feel a bit 'clinical'. Any suggestions for colour? Would you keep it light, or go with something more dramatic?

Thanks in advance. Sorry the post is so long.

Kris.

Hi Kris, Can I move in? The whole thing sounds completely gorgeous!

I think the idea of continuing with BM Horizon is perfect, but if you'd like to switch things up a bit, perhaps taking that colour onto the ceiling too might be a nice way to make the space feel a little more unusual. You might also want to make the Horizon the trim colour for the room, just think how lovely the bathroom door and any other moulding inside the bathroom might look in a semi gloss version of the wall colour. For me at least, the basic key to making a bathroom work is coming up with a palette that is consistent and simple with lots of sparkle, and I think you've done that in spades.

Cheers, Arren
