Arren Williams is the name, and I'm a stylist, editor and trend reporter. You'll catch my work regularly popping up in print in the likes of the National Post, House & Home and elsewhere. I'm also a guest expert on Citytv's CityLine, and you can occasionally find me on HGTV as well as on ABC 7 News in Chicago.

To keep things fun I've tapped a couple of friends - Julia Black and Jenn Hannotte - to contribute their views on design too. Enjoy!

Ask Arren > Lighting ideas

Hi Arren,

I've just moved into a small condo -- I love the Arco style floor lamp, but they are too pricey for me. Do you have any budget friendly alternatives? or where to get something similar in the Toronto area? I don't want to start drilling into the concrete ceiling.

Thanks

Hey VT, You definitely have good, if rather pricey, taste! lol. The Arco floor lamp, designed by Castiglioni in '62 tops out not too far off $4K. Gulp. While I'd much rather you shopped for a vintage arc floor lamp that had the same feel - in the stores out at Roncesvalles, or Queen East - if you want a look-a-like then I'd suggest you give Morba a try at Queen & Bathurst. While they may not carry it in stock, they could most probably order one in from you, and it would be a smidge of $4K for sure! If they're not able to help then you might want to contact Pink & Brown, their Orb Arco Lamp is exactly what you're looking for and they'll be able to put you in touch with a retailer that carries their line.

Cheers, Arren
