Arren Williams is the name, and I'm a stylist, editor and trend reporter. You'll catch my work regularly popping up in print in the likes of the National Post, House & Home and elsewhere. I'm also a guest expert on Citytv's CityLine, and you can occasionally find me on HGTV as well as on ABC 7 News in Chicago.
To keep things fun I've tapped a couple of friends - Julia Black and Jenn Hannotte - to contribute their views on design too. Enjoy!
Hey Kathy, I say get the paint ready and go for it!!! A grey, though not too dark, would be absolutely smashing. Best bets are to check the historical palettes that most company's have. The colours are softer and slightly dirtier, giving them more depth and warmth to the eye. Hmmm, as for suggestions, have a look at Farrow & Ball's Stone White and Para's Citadel Grey P2144-02. Both would look great, but not too contrasty, with your white trim.
Cheers, Arren

Hi Arren,
I wrote you a little while ago to ask what you recommended for covering up the hideous exterior brick on our row house - tint or paint. Given our budget, I think we have decided to go with paint. Our dilemna now is deciding on colour and whether or not we should consider the fact that we are in a row of homes that all have a similar look and brick colour. As a reminder, our brick is an orangey-yellow tone, there is a yellow brick border around the perimeter of the house and a big raised yellow brick diamond in the middle. Blech. The window casings are white. Our preference would be something grey and modern however that would make our house really stand out from the row and I'm not sure if this is a good or bad thing. Any suggestions ?
Many thanks,
Kathy
