Arren Williams is the name, and I'm a stylist, editor and trend reporter. You'll catch my work regularly popping up in print in the likes of the National Post, House & Home and elsewhere. I'm also a guest expert on Citytv's CityLine, and you can occasionally find me on HGTV as well as on ABC 7 News in Chicago.
To keep things fun I've tapped a couple of friends - Julia Black and Jenn Hannotte - to contribute their views on design too. Enjoy!
Hi V! Sounds like a fun project! Your cabinet is most probably originally painted in oil, so your fist step would be to clean and then lightly sand the surface. Next, I would suggest priming it with a super-heardwearing transforming primer/sealer like Zinsser, which will then allow you to finish with a latex paint over the top.
Cheers, Arren

I have a very old cabinet (4' X 3' X 3'). I know that is wood and that it has a very shiny paint treatment on. I would love to either sand it and repaint it in a dark brown colour. I would even prefer to just repaint it. If I take this option up, what type of prepping should I do? Any help will be greatly appreciated.
