Ask Arren > bedroom window coverings
Hi Chris, Wow, your place sounds fab, I'm v. jealous! There are a couple of different ways to dress a corner window in a modern home - I'd think about a panel track system of sliding floor to ceiling blinds for a clean lined look, try Panel Track by Levelor or the affordable panel curtains from Ikea. Another option would be to think about vinyl mesh roller blinds, mounted above the window and long enough to run to the floor; again Levelor is a great option.
If you'd like to go with custom drapery there are ceiling tracks that can run around a corner. Often called 'hospital' tracks, most custom drapery firms (like Drapes & Sew Much More in Toronto) should have access to them; though I would keep the fullness down to a minimum to keep the drapes from looking too trad (no pinch pleats and maybe 1 1/2 times the length of the track, rather than the standard 2 1/2 times), and definitely run the drapes floor-to-ceiling.
For placing your bed against the window, either keep the headboard at or below the sill height (think about a upholstered headboard), an inch or two in front of your drapes. Or why not consider having a narrow false wall built to the ceiling and placed a few inches in front of the window treatment, to set the bed against - that could look ultra modern!
Cheers, Arren

Hi Arren, I was very happy to see this feature on your website. We are kindred spirits in that we both love the 50's/60's style. I saw a CityLine show of your previous home and loved the clean lines. Last summer we bought a 1950's house with 6 inch bevelled baseboards and great big bedroom windows. My problem now is dressing those bedroom windows. They wrap around the corner of the room and measure 92 inches wide each and 36 inches high. The bottom sill is 60 inches off the floor. They currently have short pinch pleated sheers.
Also, how do I place a headboard under these windows?? The only place a queen bed will fit is under the window. The room measures only 9' 10 " X 13' 4" with both closet and entry door along the 13 ' wall. Wish I could send photos.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Chris
