Ask Arren > Chandelier Suggestion?
Hi Fixedwings, Those are great fixtures! Love the fact that they have a wonderful sparkly modern feel with the chrome and crystal!
I think to go with something similar for the dining room might actually take away from the drama of the other fixtures and may feel -- to me at least -- a little too perfectly matched. Instead you might think about a large scale black shade, something like this from Dainolite, it has an 18" diameter and has touches of chrome to pick up on your other choices. If you're feeling creative, and depending on the resources available to you, you could even have a ceiling pendant made with a large scale (18" +) drum shade (black fabric exterior, lined in silver). In Toronto someone like the Lamp Cage, (416) 686-5350, might be able to take that on.
Another option would be to look at an all-black chandelier, something like this from Home Depot with a more modern style (though it's admittedly quite over-the-top!) might work.
Hope that's a start for you!
Cheers, Arren

Oh, that Dainolite fixture is perfect. I hadn't thought to go with something that simple; but now that you've pointed it out, I love the idea. Thank you so much!

Hi Arren,
I watch you often on Cityline, and am really enjoying your blog. I love all the gadgets and products that you showcase.
I wonder if you could help me? I've got a very open concept home, and right now, the decor leans towards contemporary. I am in the midst of replacing the lighting fixtures in my 400 square foot great room. I've already purchased a bar chandelier very similar to This one (http://www.dainolite.ca/Lighting/product_details.php?part_num=85304). Mine is 4' long, and has 9 bulbs. It hangs over my over sized island, and I'm very happy with it.
I'm thinking of getting a similar but round fixture(http://www.dainolite.ca/Lighting/product_details.php?part_num=85301), including the black drum shade, to go in front of the fireplace in the lounge area.
I'm struggling with finding a chandelier to go over the dining table. I suspect that any more crystal would be a bit over the top, so I was thinking of something with multiple small black shades over the bulbs to tie it in with the fixture over the fireplace. It should probably be in chrome, like the other fixtures in the house.
Do you have any suggestions for me?
