Ask Arren > Bathroom ideas
Hi Gloria, Really simplicity is best when pulling together a palette for a bathroom, though I think you should be looking more at white with a touch of black for the space, rather than black with a touch of white. The main reason for this is cleanability - Black floor tiles and then black tiles for your tub surround will show every speck of dirt. Not fun, unless you like to clean incessantly.
You might want to consider Daltile's black and white Octagon and Dot floor tile, available at Home Depot. It also comes all white and white and grey too, all of which would add a nice romantic vintage feel to your bathroom. For wall tiles - honestly - white subway tiles can't be beat, though you don't necessarily have to go the expected route. For tons of extra charm look for subway tiles with bevelled edges, and think of running a couple of stripes around the room in black for drama.
For surfaces you could look at a black granite, or - my preference - a white marble with grey veins like Carrera. If you do have any walls to paint - though I'm currently a big fan of tiling all four walls to the ceiling in a bathroom - then you could definitely go for a glossy black, and for added punch, think of painting the ceiling black too.
Cheers, Arren

Hello Arren,
We will soon be gutting our entire bathroom and are in desperate need of ideas. I know the look i want but am having a hard time piecing everything together, wall call, counter top, tile ect....We would like a modern romantic glam look and we were thinking of black tile floors as well as black tile along the bath and shower wall. Will this be too dark if the bathtub is white? Any suggestions please?
I really appreciate your help.
