Arren Williams is the name, and I'm a stylist, editor and trend reporter. You'll catch my work regularly popping up in print in the likes of the National Post, House & Home and elsewhere. I'm also a guest expert on Citytv's CityLine, and you can occasionally find me on HGTV as well as on ABC 7 News in Chicago.
To keep things fun I've tapped a couple of friends - Julia Black and Jenn Hannotte - to contribute their views on design too. Enjoy!
Hi Diego, For a wood option I would talk to someone like Tim at Beresford's regarding a new top. An affordable way to go would be to think of using a good quality plywood faced in a birch, maple or even a simple white laminate. All of those choices would be quite a mid-century appropriate way to go (very Charles and Ray Eames). For marble there are literally tons of suppliers out there (you might like to check Marbles of Portugal) but the big thing to consider is if you go with something like a Carrera marble that it will take care and the correct sealers to keep it looking perfect. Red wine is not your best friend with a white marble table top!
Cheers, Arren

Hi,
I have my eye on a Saarinen tulip table base on eBay, and so I need to consider options for the table top.
I'm thinking the smaller round size, say 44 inches diameter. Options would be wood or marble.
Any tips on who to talk to in TO about getting a custom top made at a reasonable cost?
Thanks,
Diego.
