No sneaky sharing (but do go!)
Friday, May 8, 2009 at 11:24AM Last night I ended up checking out the Junior League of Toronto's 2009 Showhouse at McLean House, and all I can say is WOW! More than 50 design teams put their best foot forward creating incredibly inspiring spaces, and with the ticket price of $25 I hafta say you'll definitely be getting your money's worth. Sadly I can't share any of the spaces on the blog (no matter how sneaky I might be) since they're destined for the Oct /09 issue of Canadian House & Home, so you'll just have to head and check the Showhouse in person. For more info click here, and to buy tickets click here, and to check out some behind the scenes action courtesy of House & Home click here. I have my faves (Katherine Newman, Kimberley Seldon, Jeanette Hlinka, Anne Hepfer, and Wiklem Design to name a few), but if you do go, please let me know which were your standouts! Ugh I know It hurts that I cannot share photos yet...
I loved Katherine's and Anne's and Wiklem Design's too - I would be Madame X anyday!
Ditto re Katherine Newman's transformation of the living room and conservatory. I was married at McLean House 11 years ago and although the decor received a fresh overhaul, the architecture and views to the garden remain as breathtaking as ever!
Other favourites were Patricia Halpin's (graphic, fresh and fun baby's room) and Robert Tanz's (quirky yet restful sitting room.)
So much to comment on....I just loved this show!! Have already been back a second time (dragged my hubby with me who was not disappointed. I told him it was like walking into the reveals of 50 TV design shows) ...and may go to some of the presentations this week. I loved the hallway in the basement (Meredith Heron) and upstairs there was a room that used pink design panelling on the ceiling that tied in with pink animal print chairs (Linda Crammond). Also loved the stain glass carpet on the third floor (Reznick and Partners). Thanks for this recommendation Arren!!!
A couple of the "name" designers were a disappointment, but as a whole the house was terrific. A few of my favourites were Anne Hepfer's Homage to Chanel (I want that room) and Linda Crammond's Stewart Room. The ceiling panels were so original and one doesn't often see a contemporary room with seating that is "green", beautiful and comfortable. The Lower Vestibule by Gillian Gillies was charming and very creative for such a difficult space.
